Weverton, who was born in Rio Branco, Acre, joined Corinthians‘ development system in 2005, when he was 18 years old, after excelling in a match for Juventus-AC. In 2007, he was promoted to the main squad, but with Rafael Santos’ promotion, he was demoted to fourth-choice. Following that, Weverton was loaned to Remo, Oeste, and América de Natal. He was a regular in Série B with the latter, splitting minutes with the veteran Rodolpho. He made a total of 1 appearance for Remo, 18 appearances for Oeste and started 16 times for America De Natal.

Weverton was released by Timo in January 2010 and went to Botafogo-SP shortly after. He made a total of 22 appearances in a season for the club. He joined Portuguesa on May 12 after impressing with the team. Weverton was an indisputable starter for Lusa in 2011, featuring in every league match as his team won the title. He made 105 appearances in 3 seasons for the team.

After his previous contract expired in May 2012, he joined Atlético Paranaense. Wéverton’s contract was extended till 2017 on October 15, 2014, after he was named captain for the season. Weverton spend most of his career in Atletico Paranaense playing for 6 seasons where he made a total of 303 appearances for the club.

Weverton signed a five-year contract with Palmeiras in December 2017 for a reported sum of R$ 2 million. After defeating So Paulo in the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals in August 2021, Weverton surpassed Marcos as the Palmeiras player with the most victories in the competition, with a total of 28 triumphs.

Manager Rogério Micale called Weverton to the Brazilian Olympic team for the 2016 Summer Olympics on July 31, 2016, to replace Fernando Prass, who had departed the team due to injury.  Weverton made a crucial stop against Germany’s Nils Petersen on the fifth penalty kick in the gold medal match, helping Brazil capture their first Olympic football gold.

Weverton was called up by coach Tite for qualification matches against Ecuador and Colombia after winning gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics. On October 9, 2020, Weverton returned to the Brazil national squad after a three-year absence. “It was a great game for me,” Weverton stated when asked about his homecoming.

He was named to Brazil’s roster for the 2021 Copa América, which will be held on home soil, in June 2021. He made his debut in Brazil’s third group encounter, a 2–1 victory against Colombia, on June 23.
