Tiago began his professional football career with River Plate. Since his youth, he has been a prolific player. In 2018, Geralnik began to entice European teams after being named best footballer in an international Under 16 competition held in Portugal. Later that year, he would break it again in another tournament in France, and offers from abroad would come quickly. Fulham was the first, but they were unsuccessful. Nonetheless, River was warned: despite his lack of a contract, he was already attracting attention from abroad.

As a result, Rodolfo D’Onofrio and his team got to work and gave the young man a lucrative deal that included a real estate investment. However, the family’s determination was too strong. Gallardo’s comments were meaningless to those who spoke with him directly. Another Marcelo, Tiago’s father and a physical trainer who spent much of his career in Venezuela (where he became a partner with Sebastián Beccacece at the University of Chile), had already decided to leave Argentina owing to the country’s poor economic and social situation. There, he was able to arrange for the footballer to join Villarreal.

Tiago joined Villarreal CF in 2020 after leaving the River Plate youth academy. 2 He became a regular in the C squad in the Spanish 2021-22 season, even making his debut with the subsidiary in the third national category on January 9, 2022, when he played the final 27 minutes of a match against Algeciras CF, which ended in the latter’s 2-1 triumph.

He represented Argentina U16 at the Montia Cup in France in 2020 and was named the best player of the competition, earning him a number of offers. He eventually joined Villarreal, who compensated River Plate financially.

Lionel Scaloni named him to the Argentina national football team squad for the March 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers matches against Venezuela and Ecuador.
