Theo Hernandez began his career at the Atletico Madrid academy when he was nine years old, and after progressing through the youth ranks, he was promoted to the Tercera Division reserves in the summer of 2015.

On the 3rd of February 2016, he renewed his contract, and due to injuries, he was called up to the first team for a La Liga encounter against Eibar, however, he was an unused replacement in the 3-1 home win.
