He began his career at the age of six with his hometown club, the Sporting Club de Sainte-Gemmes-d’Andigné, before moving on to the neighboring ES Segré team, which plays at a higher level1. He stayed for five years, long enough for Nantes recruiters to notice him as they crisscrossed the Pays de la Loire looking for local talent. He joined FC Nantes’ levels in 2008 and progressed through the club’s U14 to U18 teams before making his first appearances with the reserve team in 2011-2012. He also helped the U17s win the Montaigu Tournament in 2011 and the U19s reach the Gambardella Cup semi-finals in 2011-2012.

On May 9, 2015, against the Girondins de Bordeaux, Léo Dubois made his Ligue 1 debut, replacing teammate Kian Hansen after 83 minutes of play3. Nantes was defeated 1-2 at the Chaban-Delmas stadium on that day. On July 1, 2015, the Loire club confirmed that Dubois’ contract, which had previously been extended until 20172, had been extended by one year.

Léo Dubois scored his first goal4 as a professional on September 24, 2017, in Strasbourg, on the seventh day of Ligue 1, giving his club a 2-1 victory. A revelation occurs in the 24th minute of play when Bingourou Kamara, the Strasbourg goalie, propels a strike from 35 meters into the Strasbourg goalkeeper’s skylight. “I’ve been trying to score for a while, I hit, I try my luck, and it goes,” he remarked at the end of the game.

He announced his departure for Olympique Lyonnais at the end of the season on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, with his new deal tying him to the club until 2022. He’ll wear number 14, which has been vacant since Sergi Darder6’s departure in August 2017. With a 2-07 victory over Amiens Sporting Club on the first day of the 2018-2019 season, Léo Dubois made his first start in Ligue 1 with Lyon.

Despite not always being a starter due to stiff competition for the right-back position from Brazilian Rafael and Dutch Kenny Tete, he put in impressive performances and entries during the match, allowing him to score his first goal with OL in the UEFA Champions League against Shakhtar Donetsk on October 2, 2018. He allowed his club to tie the game at 2-2 two minutes later, as Moussa Dembélé scored in the 70th minute.

In May of this year, Dubois was called up to the France senior team for the first time. He made his debut in a 2–0 friendly win against Bolivia on June 2, 2019, replacing Benjamin Pavard in the 46th minute. Dubois made his first start for France’s senior team nine days later and played every minute of the 4–0 away triumph over Andorra in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying.  Dubois came on as a substitute in the 79th minute of France’s 2–1 victory over Spain in the UEFA Nations League Final on October 10, 2021.
