Emile Smith Rowe began playing football for Arsenal’s youth team when he was ten years old, and he made his first appearance for the U23s in 2016-17 when he was sixteen years old. During the 2017-18 season, he appeared 10 times for the U23s, contributing two assists and one goal. He signed his first professional deal with the club on July 31, 2017.
