Who is Ederson ?

Ederson Santana de Moraes, better known as Ederson, is a Brazilian footballer who currently plays as a goalie for Manchester City in the Premier League and for the Brazilian national team. He formerly played for Benfica (2015-2017) and Rio Ave. and is recognized as one of the top goalkeepers in the world (2012-2015).

After previously being capped at the under-23 level, Ederson made his senior debut for Brazil in 2017. He was named to Brazil’s roster for the 2018 World Cup, as well as the 2019 and 2021 Copa América tournaments, winning the latter. In addition, the goalkeeper owns the Guinness World Record for the Longest Drop Kick in Football.

Ederson Moraes is a 28-year-old Brazilian actor who was born on August 17, 1993. He is a Leo and was born in Osasco, Brazil. He also goes by the name Ederson Santana de Moraes. He is a dual citizen of Brazil and Portugal. He bought the latter in 2016.

Between the posts, Ederson has been regarded as an athletic, commanding, and a physically intimidating goalkeeper who boasts both physical power and good reflexes and shot-stopping abilities. However, he is better known for his distribution and ball-handling skills than for his shot-stopping abilities: his ball control and confidence allow him to keep possession and quickly play the ball out from the back on the ground with his hands or either foot – even when under pressure – or launch an attack with long kicks. He can use either foot, despite being normally left-footed. Former Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given dubbed Ederson “the best goalkeeper in the world with his feet” in 2018 for his distribution, and his range of passing has led to him being dubbed a playmaker in the media.

Ederson, a Manchester City player, is married to the lovely Lais Moraes. They met in 2013 and have been together since. Ederson was at Rio Ave when the two met. The Christian footballer, who has ‘I belong to Jesus’ tattooed across his chest, married in April 2014 at the age of 21. Following the goalkeeper’s return to Benfica and then Manchester, the couple relocated to Lisbon. Lais, Ederson’s wife, frequently attends games to support her husband. Yasmin Moraes, their first child, was born on the 6th of June 2017. They welcomed Henrique Moraes into their family on September 13th, 2018. Laura Moraes, their second daughter, was born on January 17, 2020. Ederson’s Instagram is full of cute family photos.

Ederson Moraes is roughly 1.88 meters tall, or 6 feet 2 inches tall, and weighs 89 kg. When it comes to tattoos, this athlete has a plethora of them strewn around his body. He wears a rose and a skull on his neck, and angel wings on his back. He also has a tattoo on his leg of a Portuguese League trophy that he won with Benfica in 2016 and 2017. Ederson, who was born in Osasco, So Paulo, began his football career in 2008 with the local team So Paulo FC, where he spent a season before joining Benfica in Portugal. He spent two years as a junior here at the age of 16, before moving to Ribeiro in the Second Division in 2011. He joined Rio Ave in the Primeira Liga a year later. He signed a contract with Rio Ave in the summer of 2012. He signed a new contract with the club in May 2015, lasting through 2014, after a streak of good performances and a call-up to the Brazil under-23 squad.

Ederson returned to Portuguese champions Benfica on June 27, 2015. Then, in July, he officially signed a five-year contract worth €500,000 with the club, with a €45 million release clause. Rio Ave would retain 50% of the future keeper’s economic rights. Ederson started as a second choice in line for the first team in the 2015–16 season, with compatriot and international Julio César defending him. Ederson first appeared in the Segunda Liga with the reserve team and the Taça da Liga with the first team before making his Primeira Liga debut on March 5, 2016, against Sporting CP, replacing injured Julio César. Benfica won the Lisbon derby 0–1 and climbed to the top of the Primeira Liga table.

He would later play a role in eleven more victories as Benfica won their 35th league title, and third in a row. He played in the Taça da Liga final against Maritimo five days later, which Benfica won 6–2. In addition, he appeared in three Champions League matches as Benfica advanced to the quarter-finals. He and Benfica won the triple of the Primeira Liga, Taça de Portugal, and Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira the next season.

Ederson joined the Premier League team Manchester City for £35 million (€40 million) on June 1, 2017, according to Benfica. After Gianluigi Buffon (£33 million), he became the second most expensive goalkeeper of all time and is now the fourth most expensive. Ederson replaced Claudio Bravo as Pep Guardiola’s first-choice goalkeeper almost immediately. He made his competitive debut for the club on 12 August 2017, keeping a clean sheet in a 0–2 away win at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ederson became the first Manchester City goalkeeper to provide a Premier League assist on August 19, 2018, as Sergio Agüero converted his goal-kick for the opening goal in a 6–1 win over Huddersfield Town. After a 5–0 home win against Norwich City on July 26, 2020, Ederson was awarded the Golden Glove for keeping the cleanest sheets (16) in the 2019–20 Premier League season.

Ederson was named in Brazil’s provisional squad for the Copa América Centenario, however, due to injury, he was left out of the final team. In October 2017, he made his national team debut in a 3–0 triumph over Chile in a 2018 World Cup qualifier. He was included in Tite’s final 23man World Cup team in Russia in May 2018.

Ederson was named to Brazil’s 23-man roster for the 2019 Copa América in May. He debuted for Brazil in a major event in June 2021, starting and maintaining a clean sheet in a 4–0 win over Peru at the Copa América.
