Costil, who was born in Caen, Calvados, began his career in Ligue 1 with Caen but only made 10 appearances before being loaned to Vannes in Ligue 2 in the 2008–09 season. Sedan signed Costil from Caen until June 2011 on June 17, 2009.  He made 76 games for Sedan in two years and was named the best goalkeeper in Ligue 2 for the 2010–11 season.

After his contract with Sedan concluded on June 14, 2011, he signed a three-year contract with Rennes. For the first time since a few outings at Caen at the start of his career, he returned to Ligue 1 with this move. He moved to Bordeaux in 2017.
